Welcome to Visible 👋 We’re excited to have you with us!
We’ve prepared some guidance to help you get the most out of your membership in the first few days and beyond.
⚠️ Update your app to connect your Armband 2.0
Congratulations! If you’ve recently received an Armband 2.0, you’re among the first Visible members to get your hands on one. Because it's so new, you'll need to update your app to the latest version before you can connect your armband.
Tap the button below to visit the App Store or Google Play and check for updates:
📒 A quick note about this guide
Before getting started please make sure you've downloaded the Visible app, created an account and followed the steps to activate your account that will have been sent via email.
All of this information will be available in the app. However, you can use this as a resource to help you get started.
As always, we’re here to help. If something isn’t covered in this guide, or you need any assistance, please reach out to us via Member Support.
Step 1: Charging your armband
(1) Connect the magnetic charging pins to the back of your armband.
(2) Plug the USB cable into a USB port. If the battery is completely empty, it may take several minutes for the charging to start.
(3) We suggest charging your Armband 2.0 for 1 hour to wake it from 'Warehouse Mode' and then connect.
(4) It takes around 1 hour to fully charge your Armband 2.0, which has a battery life of around 5 days when fully charged.
Issues with charging? Find our troubleshooting steps here.
Step 2: Setting up your armband
(1) Your armband is always on. It will only read a heart rate when in contact with the skin.
(2) Place your armband anywhere on your upper arm or just below the elbow on the forearm. The LED lights should be on the underside of the armband, firmly against your skin. The armband strap is adjustable, and you can tighten or loosen it to ensure that the fit is comfortable.

Step 3: Connecting your armband to the app
(1) Tap on Connect your armband on the Today screen, and follow the instructions to connect your armband to Visible.
😕 Don't see the "Connect your armband" button?
You'll need to make sure you have activated your membership. Check your email for an activation link.
If you're still having trouble with this, please don't hesitate to reach out via the in-app Help & Feedback in your Profile screen!
(2) If your phone prompts you to "pair" your armband during the getting started process, make sure to accept.
Step 4: Staying connected
Keeping Visible open and running in the background: We recommend leaving your app running “in the background” while Armband 2.0 is connected to get the best data from your membership. This means that you should avoid force quitting the app during the day (by “swiping the app away” in your task manager). You can still use other apps while Visible is running.
Wearing your armband: Armband 2.0 is completely waterproof. You can use it while showering, bathing, or swimming. And while we haven't optimized sleep tracking yet, we recommend wearing your armband overnight. The band automatically stops reading if it is no longer in contact with your body, and will enter standby mode until it is being worn again.

Introducing the Heart Rate screen
(1) When your armband is connected you will see a live heart rate on your Today screen. Tap your live heart rate to open the Heart Rate screen.
(2) In the Heart Rate screen, you can see a chart of your heart rate for that day. To zoom in on the chart, you can double-tap on it, or by pinching the screen with two fingers.
You can see your heart rate value at any time by holding down your finger and moving the chart.
The different colors relate to what heart rate zone you are in.
Introducing heart rate zones
Heart rate zones are an effective way of measuring your exertion levels when pacing. There is a close correlation between your heart rate and how strenuously you are exerting.
Rest Zone ⚪️
This is where your heart rate is low, your body is typically still, and rest and recovery happens.
Activity Zone 🔵
This is where you start using up energy. You can expect most day-to-day activities to fall within this zone, if you’re pacing well.
Exertion zone 🔴
This is where your body is working significantly harder. Extended time in this zone can increase the chances of symptom flare-ups or 'crashes'.
How are my heart rate zones calculated?
When you first sign-up to Visible, you are provided with some “auto-generated” zones. These are an estimate of the heart rate zones most suitable to you, calculated by an algorithm.
The heart rate zones algorithm was created based on anonymous data from thousands of Visible members. It considers factors like your age, functional capacity, and the heart rate data you have collected so far.
The algorithm does not consider factors like your gender, your disability status, or your illness. Based on our data, these factors are less relevant when estimating the right heart rate zones for you.
It also doesn't consider any medication you're taking that could impact your heart rate. If you're taking any of these types of medication, it could be helpful to reach out using Member Support.
It's really important to note that these zones are a starting point. After 4 days of wearing your armband, we'll be able to provide more accurate recommendations.

Introducing PacePoints.
PacePoints are an overall exertion score that helps you measure and manage your energy expenditure throughout the day. Your PacePoints are calculated based on the time you spend in the heart rate zones.
Rest Zone ⚪️
When in this zone, you will accumulate no PacePoints.
Activity Zone 🔵
This is where you start using up energy, and accumulate PacePoints, at a moderate rate.
Exertion zone 🔴
This is where your body is working significantly harder, and PacePoints accumulate more quickly. Extended time in this zone can quickly increase your PacePoints.
(1) If you return to the Today screen, you'll find a PacePoints summary under your live Heart Rate.
(2)Tap it to open the PacePoints screen. This will show the number of PacePoints you have accumulated today. It also includes the PaceSetter, which indicates how likely you are to exceed your PacePoints budget. This will be introduced after you've collected 4 days of heart rate data using Visible.
The PacePoints screen also includes a graph showing the previous seven days' PacePoints, with your budget represented by a red dotted line.
Questions about PacePoints? You can find more info here.
Introducing Over-exertion notifications
Over-exertion notifications are sent to your smartphone when your heart rate crosses into your exertion zone. You can use these to minimize the amount of time you spend in the exertion zone and help avoid crashes.
You can decide after how long you would like to be notified when setting up your Visible account based on your own condition and how often you're happy to be notified
If you wish to edit or change this at any time, you can do so by going to your Profile screen, selecting Pacing settings, and then Pacing notifications.

Your new personalized heart rate zones
The data you've collected over the first four days of using Visible helps us to understand whether you're in rest, activity or exertion, and provides a more accurate estimate of your zones.
Heart rate zones are different for everybody. Your estimated heart rate zones are a good starting point, but you may need to adjust them to make them work best for you. If you need any support don't hesitate to reach out using Member Support from your Profile screen.

Setting a PacePoints budget
Setting a PacePoints budget provides you with a personalized energy "allowance". You can use it to balance your exertion levels throughout the day to stay within your budget.
(1) Once you've collected four days of data, you’ll be shown your average number of PacePoints from the last 4 days.
(2) You will then be asked to rate how active you have been whilst gathering your four days of data. This will then allow us to give you a suggested budget.
Your budget may need adjusting in your first few weeks with Visible to find a budget that works for you. Similarly, if your condition changes over time, you may need to update it.
Introducing the PaceSetter
The PaceSetter is a tool for planning and prioritizing energy expenditure. It moves slowly around the donut chart throughout the day, starting when you first put on the band and ending at midnight.
By monitoring where you are in relation to your PaceSetter at any given point, it can help you plan the rest of the day and help you avoid using up your budget too fast.
You can set up PaceSetter notifications to notify you when you're ahead of your PaceSetter or when you exceed your budget for the day.
To turn on or off these notifications, go to the Profile screen and select Pacing settings then select Pacing notifications.
More questions about the PacePoints and PaceSetter? You can find more info here.
Great, you're all set up!
Don't forget you can adjust your Heart Rate Zones, PacePoints budget and notifications at any time. If you ever need any support please don't hesitate to reach out to the team using Member Support via your Profile screen.
