Getting your Stability from overnight data

Learn how to get your Stability Score without taking a morning measurement

A newer way to get your Stability Score on Visible Band 2.0

From app version 26.9.3 (rolling out from the end of September 2026), Stability (overnight data) moved out of Early Access. This is now the default way to get your Stability Score if you have a Visible Band 2.0.

Wear your Visible Band 2.0 to bed each night. When you wake for the day, rate your sleep, and your Stability Score will be ready. You don't need to take a morning reading.

If you have a Polar Verity Sense, or you're using Visible without a membership, you'll continue to get your Stability Score from morning readings as usual.

If you have a Visible Band 2.0, your Stability Score uses data collected while you sleep.

Your band measures your resting heart rate and heart rate variability overnight. Your Stability Score then combines this data with your morning sleep score and, optionally, any symptoms you rated in your Evening Check-in.

Getting your Stability Score from overnight data

Wear your band to bed to get your Stability Score from data collected while you sleep.

Here's how it works:

  1. Before you go to bed: make sure your band has enough charge to last until morning.

  2. Overnight: wear your band.

  3. In the morning: rate your sleep on the Today page when you open the app. Your Stability Score will appear automatically.

We recommend having at least 15% battery charge on your band before going to sleep.

Building your baseline of overnight data

Stability needs a baseline of overnight resting heart rate and heart rate variability data before it can calculate a score. It takes 4 nights of wearing your band to bed before you'll get a score.

While your baseline is building, you'll see a Building your baseline card on your Stability result page.

Moving from morning readings to overnight data

From app version 26.9.3 onwards, if you have a Visible Band 2.0, your Stability Score now uses overnight data.

To calculate your Stability Score from overnight data, you need an overnight baseline. This is separate from your morning readings baseline.

Already wear your band to bed?

You'll have enough overnight data recorded in the background for your overnight baseline. Your Stability Score will switch to using overnight data straight away.

Why you might see "Stability Score unavailable"

Stability needs overnight data to calculate your score. If your band doesn't record enough data while you sleep, you'll see a "Stability Score unavailable" message instead.

This can happen if:

  • your band didn’t have enough battery to record overnight data

  • you forgot to wear your band overnight, or chose not to wear it

  • there was a technical glitch, and we were unable to get enough overnight data from your band to calculate your score.

To help avoid this happening again, make sure your band has at least 15% charge before you go to sleep, and that you're wearing it snugly on your wrist or arm while you sleep.

You can't take a morning reading as a backup on days when your overnight data is unavailable.

If you prefer not to wear your band overnight

Overnight data is the most reliable option for getting your Stability Score with Visible Band 2.0. However, if you prefer not to sleep wearing your band, you can choose to use morning readings for your Stability Score instead.

If you can’t commit to wearing your band overnight

Visible uses your body’s signals over time to understand what’s normal for you. To keep your score as accurate as possible, it needs to compare either morning data across multiple days, or overnight data across multiple days.

If you're only able to wear your band on certain nights, or think you may often forget to wear it, we recommend using morning readings to get your Stability Score.

Switching to morning readings

To switch to morning readings:

  1. Go to Profile → Stability in the app.

  2. Choose Take a morning reading.

Then put your band on when you wake for the day, and take a short morning reading to get your Stability Score.

You can switch back to overnight data at any time later in Profile → Stability.

Building a new baseline after you switch

Any time you switch between overnight data and morning readings, you may need to build a new baseline. For example, if you switch to overnight data and haven't worn your band overnight in the past 90 days, you'll need to rebuild your baseline.

If this happens, you'll get a message explaining that you need to rebuild your baseline.

You can compare Stability Scores taken using overnight and morning data

The Stability algorithm handles the switch between overnight and morning measurements, so you can keep comparing your scores over time, no matter how you choose to take your body's data.

Overnight and morning data are labeled separately

Your morning data may look different from your overnight data. This is normal.

Overnight and morning data are shown separately across the app, for example, on the Trends page and in the Health Report PDF.

Your resting heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) are labeled by when they were measured: Overnight Resting HR and Overnight HRV, or Morning Resting HR and Morning HRV.

Common questions

Why am I getting a "No internet connection" message?

Visible needs an internet connection to calculate your Stability Score. If you see the error message "No internet connection," check your connection and tap Try again. You can retry as many times as you need.

Stability Score "No internet connection" message when using overnight data.

Why am I getting a "Band connection error" message?

Your band needs a strong connection to your phone to get your overnight data and calculate your Stability Score. If you see the error message "Band connection error," keep your band close to your phone and tap Try again. You can retry as many times as you need.

If you continue to get a band connection error, try our Visible Band 2.0 connectivity troubleshooting.

What happens if my band runs out of battery overnight?

If your band runs out of battery overnight, you won't get a Stability Score for that day. Make sure your band has at least 15% charge before bed to avoid this.

Can I retake my Stability Score when using overnight data?

No, with Stability (overnight data), you can't delete or retake your Stability Score. The band automatically captures data across hours of sleep and filters out disrupted periods, so retaking isn't necessary.

This is different from morning measurements, where if something interrupts your reading (like a sneeze), you have the option to redo your reading.

Why do I still have to rate my sleep if Visible has my overnight data?

We need your sleep quality rating to calculate your Stability Score, even if you are testing Early Access Sleep tracking.

Sleep tracking is only available in Early Access. We're still working on making high-quality automated sleep tracking more widely available.
