The Monthly Check-in is a set of questions about how your health affects your daily life. You answer it every 30 days, and Visible turns your answers into a summary you can follow over time.
This article explains how it works. If you'd rather get started, read completing your Monthly Check-in,
The check-in uses PROMIS measures
PROMIS is a set of questions used widely in healthcare and research around the world. They were developed with funding from the US National Institutes of Health.
They're designed to work for different medical conditions and pick up change over time.
They're also scored in a standard way. This means your results mean something outside Visible too, for example, to a clinician.
Visible created the Symptom delay questions. While PROMIS doesn't ask about delayed symptoms (often called post exertional malaise, or PEM), we believe this is important to track over time.
There are 18 core questions, and 4 optional questions
The check-in is split into sections:
Fatigue - about your physical energy levels
Thinking - about memory and focus
Movement - about everyday physical activities like chores and stairs
Social roles - about doing things for leisure, work (including working at home) and being with friends and family
Symptom delay - about the effect of activity on how you feel the next day
Pain interference - about how pain affects your day
Symptom delay and Pain interference are optional.
At 3, 6 and 12 months, one extra section is added at the start. This asks about how your overall health has changed since using Visible. Read more about what the Monthly Check-in asks you.
Each question tells you the time period it covers
The check-in comes round every 30 days, to build a picture of how you're doing over time.
Some questions ask about the past 7 days. Others ask about the past month, or about how things are for you generally.
You have 7 days to complete each check-in
Once a check-in opens, you have 7 days to finish it. Read about when your Monthly Check-in opens and closes.
You can stop and come back
Your progress is saved every time you complete a section. You don't have to finish the whole check-in in one go. If you need to stop after one section, come back to the rest later, any time in your 7 days.
Every check-in you complete is saved
You can look back at any month you've completed. Read about finding past Monthly Check-in summaries.
Your summary shows trends over time
Most sections include a simple summary from Normal limits to Severe, and a chart showing how your score has changed across your check-ins. We also call out what changed. Read about understanding your Monthly Check-in summary.
